Greek Olympic sprinter fails drugs test

With the Olympic games only a couple of hours old, a Greek sprinter has failed a dope test.

Tassos Gousis was due to compete in the 200 metres in Beijing.

The 29 year old tested positive before the team left for training in Japan, and has been sent home.

The drug is believed to be the banned steroid methyltrienolone.

Gousis could also be banned from the London 2012 Olympics under a new IOC rule that states all athletes with a suspension of more than six months are to be banned from the next Olympics as well.

A first-time doping offence usually carries a two-year suspension.

Gousis is the 14th Greek athlete to test positive for drugs since May.
