Home ban as Limavady escape Cup expulsion

Saturday, 3 December 2011

Limavady have been handed a suspended ban from the Bob Kerr Irish Cup after their refusal to complete the second round match in last season's competition against Instonians.

The decision was taken by the Cricket Ireland Cricket Committee at their meeting last week when the draw for the first round of next year's competition was also made.

But Limavady only found out SEVEN days after the decision when they were also told their away draw, to Terenure, next year was no accident.

The punishment is suspended for two years, during which time they will play all Irish Cup games away from home.

The Roesiders were eliminated from last year's competition following their decision to walk off the field when play was due to resume after tea and the Cricket Committee last week ruled the umpires' decision to abandon the match was correct.

Limavady also received an away draw, by bad luck, this week in the second round of the Northern Bank Senior Cup. They will meet Fox Lodge.

Northern Bank Cup second round draw: Burndennett or The Nedd v Drummond or Ardmore; Fox Lodge v Limavady, Killyclooney v Coleraine, Eglinton v Donemana, St Johnston v Creevedonnell, Brigade v Strabane, Bonds Glen v Glendermott, Bready v Sion Mills. Games to be played on Saturday May 26, 2012.
