Ireland's women will miss cricket World Cup
Saturday, 19 November 2011
Ireland will not be taking part in the next Women’s World Cup finals.
Defeat to hosts Bangladesh yesterday, their third loss in four qualifying games, left them with no chance of making the finals in India in 2013.
They have two more matches, at the end of next week, to determine their final placing in the qualifying tournament with the top four joining the world’s top four in the finals.
Bangladesh scored 209 for seven in Dhaka but Ireland were then dismissed for 114 with 16 year old off spinner Khadiza Tul Kubra taking six wickets for 32.
Ireland had earlier lost to West Indies and Pakistan, their only victory coming against minnows Japan.
Meanwhile, in the men’s game Australia reached a first innings total of 296, a lead of 30, with South Africa facing four balls without loss by the close in the Second Test in Johannesburg.
