Irish left reeling in sunshine

Wednesday, 24 June 2009

The home side batted all day to make 337 in 96 overs, Ireland captain Nigel Jones taking the final wicket with the last ball.

The Civil Service North all rounder, one of seven full internationals in the team, bowled only eight overs, but finished with two for 20.

Of the rest, only Fox Lodge opening bowler Andrew Britton did himself justice and as a result, had to bowl a quarter of the total overs. He finished with two for 61

Although all seven bowlers took a wicket, Strabane’s Phil Eaglestone was the only other pace man to sneek under three an over, from his 18, but Allan Coulter’s 13 overs went for 80 and Shane Getkate conceded 50 in 12.

The Waringstown spin duo of Gary Kidd and James Hall sent down 21 overs at a cost of 63.

Blame for this awful mess lies squarely with Capello

It was right at the start of his England reign and it was that he would lead his team into the final of the World Cup in Johannesburg.
