There was great success for Northern Ireland in the Triple Crown Ten Pin Bowling tournament over the weekend.

The hosts got off to a great start in the Men’s Singles event with local bowler Billy Nimick taking the silver medal. Gold went to Mark Wells from England and bronze went to Stephen O’Connor from Ireland.

Success continued for Billy in the Men’s Doubles as he won the gold medal with his partner Alan Smith who also bowls in leagues in Dundonald. Scotland took the silver medal in this section with Ireland in third place.

A bronze medal followed for Northern Ireland with Nimick, Smith and Ryan Press taking the bronze medal in the Men’s Trios section just three pins ahead of their fellow Northern Ireland team mates George Mc Kee, Paul Mc Cauley and Kevin Horton.

Billy’s steady bowling ensured he finished in first position and took the gold medal in the ‘All Events’ section.

In the ladies singles, Karen Payne and Isobel Smith from Northern Ireland just missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th and 5th positions. In the Ladies Doubles, Ireland won the gold and bronze medals. Northern Ireland again missed out on a medal with Karen Payne, Isobel Smith and Donna Horton finishing 4th in the Ladies Trios section.

The Northern Ireland ladies luck changed however with a well deserved bronze medal in a very hard fought Ladies Team event while Zara Payne, a junior bowler from Dundonald, partnered with Paul Mc Cauley pipped Ireland to the bronze medal in the mixed doubles.
