Amy Foster progresses at university games

Lisburn AC sprinter Amy Foster coasted into the second round of the World University Games 100 metres in Kazan, Russia yesterday.

The 24-year-old Newtownards athlete was second in her heat in 11.60 secs, behind Lina Grincikaite of Lithuania who won in 11.52 secs. Amy will be aiming today to get close to her NI record of 11.49 secs.

In the Irish Milers meeting in Dublin, Lagan Valley's Conall Kirk set a NI Youth record when he won his 800 metres race in 1 min 51.63 secs. This beat Gareth Turnbull's old record of 1.52 and was a PB for an ecstatic Conal by some three seconds.

In a family double, sister Katie also set a huge PB in her 800 metres race which she won in 2.07.56.

Perfect weather conditions produced a stream of fast times in the Men's 800m, won by Letterkenny's Darren McBrearty in 1.48.71. Northern Ireland champion Michael Dyer ran a PB of 1.50.25.
