Antrim ace Christopher hails his perfect Liverpool victory

Antrim teenager Christopher Megahey's triumph helped the Irish finish 2016 on a high at the final international showjumping competition of the year - the New Year's Eve Puissance competition at the Liverpool International Horse Show.

Irish riders filled five of the top seven places, with Megahey and Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier the only combination to clear the red wall at its final height of 7ft.

The 18-year-old from Templepatrick shared the winning prize in the Puissance at London Olympia just before Christmas and completed a brace of British wins with five perfect rounds in front of a packed Echo Arena.

"I am really happy," Megahey said after collecting just over €4,000. "He is not a normal horse, he is very special. We've had him since he was eight. He Evented for a while and I jumped him for a while, and we fell into Puissance and ever since he has been a real star.

"I love the Puissance. The crowd love it and the atmosphere in there was brilliant."
