Belfast Giants hit the road early

Steve Thornton will take his Belfast Giants team on an opening weekend road trip when the Elite League campaign faces-off on September 5.

The Giants will go head-to-head with the Nottingham Panthers on the Saturday night, when new signings Stephen Murphy, Tom Walsh, Tim Cook, Kevin Phillips, Pat Bateman, Sean McMorrow, Brandon Benedict, Craig Peacock and Pierre-Luc Faubert will all make their debuts for the team.

Twenty-four hours later there is a short trip to Hull for a battle with the Stingrays, under new coach Sylvain Cloutier with a team that will include former Giant Curtis Huppe.

The first home game will take place on Saturday, September 12, with the opponents named when the full fixture list is released in the next few days.

In the Challenge Cup the Giants will face home and away games against defending league champions Sheffield Steelers plus the Edinburgh Capitals and Newcastle Vipers in the group stages.
