Bowls titles are already on way to ‘Gannon and Knock

Dungannon and Knock have retained their League titles with another set of games to be played in the competitions.

Two maximum' wins while their only rivals, Whitehead, were surprisingly crashing 5-2 at home to Holywood handed the NIWBA title yet again to Dungannon, who have still to visit Whitehead on September 4. Their only interest is topping the century mark for they are now on 96.5 points. Whitehead, 14-77.5, lead Divis 15-76.5, in the fight for runners-up spot. Newry have won the Junior League on 14-60.5 with Dromore 15-52.5 and Curran 14-46.5.

Knock have retained the Private Greens’ Women's Senior League title, following a 7-0 home win over Mossley, while Owenbeg’s 5-0 win over champions, Ballywalter, puts them two points clear of Magheradroll, who figured in one of three ties, at the top of the Junior League.

Monday is a big day for the Private Greens’ Women’s Association and Wednesday is the big date for the NIWBA, who stage two cup finals each. All matches start at 2pm.

The Stylux Cup contestants were only decided last Friday and resulted in wins for Knock and Belmont, which means the pair meet in two cup finals, the Stylux and McMaster All-Ireland (to be played to-morrow, Friday), with Knock still on course for the treble for the second time in two years.

In the semi-finals Belmont had to come back from a slow start to beat Pickie by ten shots but Knock had no problems against Crawfordsburn CC, winning by 53 shots. Downpatrick and Ballee clash in the Hazel Getty Cup decider.
