Brian Magee came face-to-face with Mikkel Kessler and promised that he would be victorious in what will be one of the biggest fights an Ulsterman has been involved in for some time.
It was confirmed at a press conference in Denmark that Lisburn man Magee would clash with former World champion Kessler on December 8 in Herning, Denmark with the fight a pay-per-view event.
Southpaw Magee has been in the form of his life over the past two years and that has included victories over Kessler’s fellow Danes, Mads Larsen and Rudy Markussen.
“I am ready for the hat-trick of KO’s. I’ve stopped Larsen, I’ve stopped Markussen and now it’s Kessler’s turn,” said Magee.
“He’s a great fighter, there is no doubt about that, but I have the tools to break him down and beat him.
“He ran from a fight earlier in the year after he was ringside and was witness to the destruction of Markussen.
“But now I have him and he will go the same way.
“Denmark has been good to me and I am happy to be going back.
“This is a huge opportunity for me and I am determined to take it.
“It is every fighter’s dream to win a World title and I am no different.”
Viking Warrior Kessler, who holds a victory over current IBF champion Carl Froch won the WBC light-heavyweight title in his last fight but has dropped down to super-middle again, which is his natural weight class.
“I look forward to fighting in Herning again,” said Kessler. “The atmosphere was fantastic last time when I fought Carl Froch.
“The fans made the difference that night, their support really lifted me to one of my greatest victories. With their help, I will become world champion again on December 8.”
Kessler only has the best memories of Herning. In September 2009, he stopped Gusmyr Perdomo to pave his way into the Super
Six World Boxing Classic before going on in April 2010 to defeat WBC super-middleweight champion Froch in a thriller.
“The fans raised the roof that night,” promoter Kalle Sauerland said. “History repeats itself, we expect a sell-out crowd, a fantastic fight and another world title for the Viking Warrior.”
Sauerland is sure that Kessler will take out the “Dane Killer” Magee.
“It´s up to Mikkel to restore the Danish fighting pride,” Sauerland added. “But when Mikkel is at the top of his game, nobody can stop him. His KO over Allan Green was impressive. Magee is the next in line to taste the wrath of the Viking Warrior.”
