Ireland will have six boxers battling for a guaranteed place at the London 2012 Games after John Joe Nevin, David Oliver Joyce and Darren O'Neill joined Joe Ward, Michael Conlan and Roy Sheehan in the last 16 at the World Championships in Baku.
Former world bronze medallist Nevin skated past India's Akhil Kumar 21-14, Joyce pulled out a big 26-13 win over Mohammad Khaiber of Afghanistan and O'Neill nudged past Egypt's Mohamad Hikal 15-13.
But there was disappointment as Ireland's two Olympic medallists bowed out. Light-flyweight Paddy Barnes suffered a shock 20-12 loss to Filipino Mark Bariga, and Ken Egan was retired in round three against Cuba's Jose Gomez-Larduet.
