Brian Gregan misses best time at World University Games

Published 10/07/2013

ATHLETICS: Tallagh's U23 European champion Brian Gregan could do no better than 5th place in yesterday's 400 metres final in the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

The 23-year-old was well in contention with four other athletes until the final 100 metres when his opposition opened a marginal gap to relegate Gregan to 5th in a time of 45.83 secs. Frustratingly, this was only marginally slower than surprise winner Vladimir Krasnow who took gold in 45.59 secs.

Brian, the sole Irish winner in the recent European meeting in Dublin, will be disappointed as his recent time Ostravawould have secured victory.

Top Irish sprinter Amy Foster, 5th in the 100 metres two days ago, withdrew from the 200 metres due to tiredness from three races in the shorter event.
