Carroll in spin as he claims fifth

Adam Carroll will start this afternoon's GP2 feature race at Monza from the third row of the grid.

The Portadown driver, who has scored four podium finishes in five races, including two victories, since he returned to the grand prix support series at the end of June, set fifth fastest time in qualifying for the Italian-owned FMS team.

Pole position went to Italian Giorgio Pantano who won both Monza races last year.

Vitaly Petrov and Kazuki Nakajima are on row two with Carroll who spun off at the Retifillio chicane just after setting his fastest lap.

Meanwhile, Citroen say they are "aiming to build an even bigger picture" of Irish rally conditions ? hence their surprise decision to send World champion Sebastien Loeb and team-mate Dani Sordo to the Cork '20' International at the end of the month.

They say they are "honing their preparations" for Rally Ireland, the penultimate and potentially crucial round of the World championship.
