Cricket: Ireland welcome Andre Botha back with open arms
Andre Botha and Phil Eaglestone are both named in the Ireland squad for next week’s Intercontinental Cup match against Canada in Toronto and the two ODIs to follow.
Botha hasn’t played since the World Twenty20 in the West Indies at the beginning of May because of a stress fracture and Eaglestone strained his side in the opening match of the World League seven weeks ago.
He proved his fitness in last week’s A-team game in Hampshire which the county second XI won by three wickets when they chased 237 in 36 overs. Ales Cusack, however, is to have an operation on his recurring shin splints problem and is now out of the squad while Surrey’s Gary Wilson will join the team only for the ODIs.
Instonians’ Rory McCann will keep wicket in the four-day game against Canada.
Ireland squad: T Johnston (capt), A Botha, G Dockrell, P Eaglestone, A Eastwood, N Jones, R McCann, J Mooney, K O’Brien, A Poynter, P Stirling, A van der Merwe, A White plus G Wilson (for ODIs only).
