Gary Kidd, the Waringstown slow left arm bowler, has been included in the 12-man squad for next week's Ireland A three-day game against the MCC at Stormont, starting on Wednesday.
Kidd played the last of his 22 internationals in the warm-up games ahead of the World Twenty20 in the West Indies in 2010 but he is right back in contention for a recall, if not for the ODI's against Pakistan next month, when George Dockrell is available, then certainly for the Intercontinental Cup game against the Netherlands, following the retirement of Albert Van der Merwe.
Also earning a recall to representative cricket, four years after his last Ireland appearance, is wicket-keeper Fintan McAllister, although that is more to do with the unavailability of Rory McCann and Stuart Poynter next week.
National Coach Phil Simmons has named three of his current international squad, James Shannon, who retains the A-team captaincy, Max Sorensen and Stuart Thompson while Ben Ackland, Chris Dougherty, Phil Eaglestone and Lee Nelson were regular members of the A-team last year.
Meanwhile, Ballymena now know they will travel to Clontarf for their first round game in the Bob Kerr Irish Cup after the Castle Avenue side won their preliminary round tie against Malahide on Saturday. Terenure beat 2006 finalists Rush in the other preliminary round game and will be Donemana's first opponents on Saturday week.
Ireland A (v MCC): J Shannon (capt), B Ackland, J Anderson, C Dougherty, P Eaglestone, G Kidd, F McAllister, A McBrine, L Nelson, E Richardson, M Sorensen, S Thompson.
