Knights in good shape for battle at the interpros

New face: Shane Getkate is an addition to the Knights' squad

Shane Getkate is the one addition to the Northern Knights squad for Sunday's Newstalk Twenty20 interprovincials at Comber.

The Knights made a winning start to the three-round series with victory over the North West Warriors at Bready five days ago so saying "same again" was a predictable call for the home games against the Warriors and, in the afternoon, against Leinster Lightning.

The Warriors, who lost their second game to Lightning last weekend, have made three changes with recalls for Brian Allen and Andy Britton, who played last year, and a first call-up for Brigade's Mattie Moran.

The Knights and Warriors meet again on Monday at The Green in the 50-over competition with Allan Coulter and Gary McClintock the only changes.

Lightning have made one change for Sunday, with Bill Coghlan replaced by Conor McLoughlin, who starred in Leinster's three-day victory over the Warriors last week.

Because of the July 12 holiday, there is only one senior game in the NCU tomorrow but it gives Waringstown the chance to join CIYMS at the top of the Premier League table, when they host Ballymena, who claimed their first win of the season, against Muckamore, last week.

Captain Lee Nelson is the only Waringstown player in the Ireland A team which gets its first action of the season today, in Malahide when they play MCC.

Andrew Poynter captains the Irish side, one of seven full internationals who will be involved and pushing their claims for inclusion in the senior team to face Sri Lanka A in three one-day internationals in two weeks' time.

But it is just as big an opportunity for the uncapped players who get a game tomorrow with Nelson joined by the North Down duo of Nick Larkin and James Cameron-Dow, Malahide's young speedster Peter Chase and CI skipper Chris Dougherty.

The MCC team includes only two players with previous county experience, with James Kennedy and former Ireland international Reinhardt Strydom the familiar names.

Twenty20 squads, Northern Knights: A White (capt), C Dougherty, N Larkin, J Shannon, L Nelson, G Thompson, N Waller, P Eakin, J Cameron-Dow, D Simpson, S Getkate, M Adair, Z Rushe. For one-day game against Warriors on Monday at Comber (10.45am) As above except A Coulter for Rushe.

North West Warriors: A McBrine (capt), S Thompson, B Allen, A Britton, S Campbell, R Chopra, R-L Dougherty, M Moran, D Rankin, A Riddles, J Thompson, C Young. For one-day game: As above except G McClintock for Britton.
