Dunbarton steam-rolled their way into the IBA Senior Cup final at Pickie Bowls Club on Saturday.

The Gilford boys defied all the odds - and the choice of venue - to rack up an impressive 98-57 win over cup specialists Bangor, booking a date against Ballymena in an all-Private Greens League final on August 22.

"We thought it was strange choice of green for a semi-final," said Dunbarton's Andy Hughes.

"Pickie is only a stone's throw away from where Bangor play their home games at Ward Park. But, if anything, it gave us a greater incentive.

"We have managed to lift the trophy on three occasions since 2002. It would be great to add our name to it again. But we'll be taking nothing for granted.

"We face possibly our toughest opposition in the form of Ballymena.

"They haven't won the cup since 2010, so they'll be in a determined frame of mind. We still have a lot to do, in terms of our league position."

It was the rink skipped by Ireland's Derek Wilson that cemented Dunbarton's place in the final. He scored a whopping 36 shots win over his international team mate Robert Hastings.

Conor McCartan and former Irish star Myles Greenfield added to the Bangor woes by claiming victories against Graham McKee (21-17) and Gary Scott (20-17).

Mark Shannon prevented the PGL side from leaving with a full house by beating Marty Trainor 19-17.

Meanwhile, Ballymena had to battle for their success against a gritty Coleraine outfit at Ballymoney.

Nigel Robinson caught the eye against the Bannsiders - the 2013 cup winners. He enjoyed a impressive 22-14 win against Ally Davidson.

Andy Duncan and Stephen Coleman also made a significant contribution for Ballymena by beating Johnny Calvin (22-18) and Ian Ross (19-14).

In the battle of the former international team mates, Coleraine's Victor Dallas came out on top against his former manager Jim Baker, winning 17-14.
