Edwards’ Wild launch

Published 18/11/2009

Olympic Gold Medallist Jonathan Edwards will be in Belfast today to launch the Wildcats Activ8 Clubs.

Edwards (43) who won gold in the triple jump at the 2000 Sydney Olympics will be at Cregagh Community Centre, Mount Merrion Road, in Belfast for the launch of the Wildcats Activ8 Clubs, an initiative from Sport Northern Ireland promoting eight steps for children to get active and stay healthy.

Activ8’s main aim is to raise awareness among Key Stage 2 pupils about the importance of doing a minimum of 60 minutes physical activity each day. The initiative is supported by all five Education and Library Boards and the Health Promotion Agency and has been awarded the coveted London 2012 Inspire Mark.

Following his retirement from athletics, Edwards has worked as a commentator and presenter for the BBC and is a member of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.
