Greyhounds: Barnish clocks best 525 of the year

A brilliant display from Barnish Star, owned by Antrim's Brian Macklin, was the highlight at Drumbo Park.

The black pup, winning for the second time in seven races, romped home by four lengths in the fastest 525 run this year, clocking 28.54 seconds.

The son of Blackstone Gene was chased home by Tullymurry Rita, while the favourite Jascor never got in a blow, being slow away and then pushed out at the bend, but it's doubtful if he could have matched Barnish on this performance even if everything had gone right.

Another top-class show came on the sprinting front from the pup Cantab. Making it two-from-two, the blue-brindle youngster whizzed round in 17.88 (335), a tremendous run for one not yet two-years-old. Crumlin owners John Eastwood and John Frazer have good cause to be excited about Cantab's future.
