Greyhounds: Mac's super six

By Robert Fenton

Seven runners and six winners on the same night. Before Saturday evening at Drumbo Park, it would have been seen as the stuff of dreams, a figment of fairytale imagination.

Not any more after Hillsborough's Ronnie McKeown, the leading trainer at the the track, raised the bar with this fabulous feat which deserves the utmost praise.

It's hard enough to win one race but a six-hit, four of them in consecutive races, was a marvel to behold.

“I have never done this before, so I'm just enjoying the moment,” said McKeown. “It makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Three wins and a third in the four heats of the Westmead Grant At Stud Bitches A3 provided the highlight of the night and gives McKeown four contenders in next Saturday's semi-finals.

Beaming Owl, owned by Patrick White, was quickest of the first round winners, clocking 28.85 seconds over the 525 trip.

McKeown’s two other first round winners were Marinas Best and Dalcash Dangle.

He also had victories in other races courtesy of Penola Power, Away Day Rex and Glandart Clara.
