Phelie’s all set to spice up India

Irish international Phelie Maguire has signed up for the new Indian Premier League hockey tournament which begins next month.

The striker is the only Irish player to put his name forward, as the world's governing body hasn't sanctioned the series.

It will be the first professional hockey league but there are issues over the Hockey India and the Indian Hockey Federation organising it jointly, as the latter is not officially recognised.

However, it's now looking unlikely that any action will be taken on those players from around the world who had signed contracts before April when the cloud storms blew up.

That means Maguire should be available, if selected, for Ireland's Olympic Qualifier early in the new year.
