Instonians and North Down into semis of T20 Cup

By Ian Callender

Instonians and North Down qualified for the semi-finals of the NCU Twenty20 Cup last night with a second victory in their group games.

The Shaw’s Bridge side, showing no effects from their abandoned Irish Cup tie against Limavady on Saturday, posted 156 for five which left CIYMS, who had lost their first game to Bangor, needing to reach their target in 18 overs. Despite a superb 71 from Gulam Bodi, from 44 balls with five fours and three sixes, they fell short by two runs.

North Down’s 253 f0r three came at almost 13 runs an over against Muckamore which made the second innings and their progress to the top of Group A a formality.

Professional Ian Moran hit 109 from just 58 balls with 14 fours and four sixes and Ryan Haire’s 60 came off 30 balls with nine fours and three sixes.

In the North West, Limavady are favourites to inflict a first league defeat on Brigade after dismissing their visitors for 157 on the first night of their Senior League One game, while Donemana completed a straightforward 71 runs victory over Glendermott.

Ulster Schools beat MCC by three wickets in their first match in Northern Ireland this week.
