Irish cricket stars to cash in
Ireland team sponsors RSA yesterday announced a £100,000 incentive bonus for outstanding individual performances at the World Cup finals in Bangladesh and India.
The squad leave for training in Dubai tomorrow and at an official farewell gathering in Dublin the players were told of the attractive cash incentive as they bid to repeat their heroics four years ago when they reached the Super Eights.
This time they will probably have to win three of their six group games to make the last eight and it will be straight into a knock-out quarter-final, but with games against India, South Africa and England plus West Indies and Bangladesh on their home pitch, it promises to be an even tougher ask to qualify than it was in 2007.
Ireland will play Zimbabwe on February 6 and Kenya on February 8. The squad fly to India the following day for warm-up games against New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Their first match is against Bangladesh on February 25.
