Henrietta Knight, best known as trainer of triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate, will judge one of the most eagerly anticipated classes at the Balmoral Show today, while Lady Maria ridden by Robert Bevis and Falco Van Spieveld with Deane Rogan were the big winners on day one.

Knight will be the judge when the Main Arena stages the celebrity race horse to riding horse class, introduced to the Balmoral Show in 2011 as a display.

Eleven entries will compete for a share of £1,500 prize money, with £500 going to the winner.

The prize fund for both national and international show jumping has reached an all-time high of £38,000.

Showjumping provided plenty of thrills and spills on the sun-drenched opening day at the Maze ahead of tomorrow's feature event, the International Grand Prix, which is worth £22,000 in prize money.

Lady Maria, with Great Britain's Bevis riding, won the Clive Richardson Ltd International Two Phase, while Falco Van Spieveld and Ireland's Rogan triumphed in the Danco International Stakes.

The main arena staged the hunter championship yesterday, with the hackney, private driving and the agricultural classes today, while the children's ridden pony classes and the Inter Hunt Chase take place tomorrow.

Ten national and international classes take place over the three days - during which around 90,000 people are expected to attend the show - when some of the UK and Ireland's most talented riders will battle it out.
