Archery: Northern Ireland just off the target

The Northern Ireland archery team took second place in the Home Nations junior event for the Glade Cup in England.

They recorded a score of 2720, but were just beaten into first place by Scotland, with England and Wales finishing behind them.

The team was Peter Cummings, Anna Elliott, Amy Lavery, Kathryn McCullough, Jonathan Napier and Mark Nesbitt.

In the regional recurve junior teams event, Northern Ireland finished eighth in the four archers mixed line-up.

The team was Mark Nesbitt, Ballyvally; Peter Cummings, Muckamore; Amy Lavery, Ballyvally; and Anna Elliott Muckamore.

Several archers also fared well in the individual sections at the National Indoor Championships.

Best performance was a third place in the under-18 women's compound for Kathryn McCullough, Kingdom of Mourne Archers, while there was a fourth place in the men's under-18 compound for Jonathan Napier, Muckamore Archery Club.

Mark Nesbitt, Ballyvally Archers, came eighth in the under-16 recurve, and Anna Elliott, Muckamore Archery Club, finished a respectable 22nd in the girls' under-16 recurve competition.
