Football: Newmill out to spoil Big Two party

Glentoran Youth and Linfield Youth avoided each other in the semi-final draw for the Lisburn Junior Invitational Shield under-16 group, but Newmill Youth could upset the "apple-cart" for the "Big Two" by beating Linfield.

Newmill won the under-15 section last season, their first in Lisburn circles, and they are right up there with the Glens and Blues in the under-16 title race, being more than capable of winning the semi.

Glentoran should progress against Glenavon Youth, though the Lurgan team held Linfield to a 2-2 draw last week.

Three of the top four teams clash in the under-10s, four out of five meet in the under-11 section and the top four contest the under-12 semi-finals.

Lisburn Youth are favourites in the under-13 section. It could be a Lisburn v Linfield under-14 final and Sunnyside could take on Linfield in the under-15 decider.

Meanwhile in the League, Linfield blasted the under-16 section wide open with a 3-1 win over leaders, Glentoran Youth and three points now separate the top four. The Blues and the Glens are level at the top, bur Newmill Youth, with a match in hand are two points behind and Lisburn Youth a point further back.
