Seven Bangor teams are setting out to put the record straight ... by bringing the Amateur League's Templeton Cup to the seaside resort for the first time in its 36-year history.
It's hard to fathom that no team from the north Down town has ever got their hands on the trophy, but records show that it was 1st Bangor who came closest, when they reached the 1981 decider only to lose 3-0 to Downpatrick II.
1st Bangor begin their campaign in the competition this weekend with a trip to Ballynahinch United II, and the other six teams from the town will be trying equally hard to break this unwelcome duck.
The others are Bangor YM II, Bangor Rangers II, Bangor Amateurs II and Bangor Swifts II, as well as the Castle United II and Bryansburn Rangers II who are also based in the town.
In fact two of them could end up facing each other in the second round if the Amateurs can beat Ballywalter II, for they would then visit the Rangers II in next month's second round.
Some Templeton first round ties have already been completed, and out already are last season's beaten finalists Temple Rangers II who went down 5-4 at Groomsport II on Saturday.
Holders Downpatrick II start the defence of the trophy in the second round with a trip to Newington Rangers II.
