GAA: Carrickmore forced to wait and see for final opponents

The Tyrone All County League final has had to be put on hold.

Carrickmore are already through to the decider, having overcome Coalisland by 1-13 to 1-8 at Edendork. This meant double disappointment for Coalisland who had previously lost out to Dromore in the county championship final by a 10-point margin.

And indeed Dromore are still in the frame to make it a Tyrone league and championship double.

They are due to meet Errigal Ciaran in the semi-final of the competition, a match that has had to be deferred because of the St Dympna's involvement in the Ulster Club Championship in which they met Crossmaglen Rangers last Sunday.

Carrickmore's thirst for glory, meantime, certainly shows no sign of abating and their Tyrone county star Conor Gormley, who scored the crucial goal in the league semi-final win over Coalisland, believes they can now make up for their championship lapse against Kildress.

"That was a bit of a shock for us I must admit but we had to take it on the chin. I think that the players are prepared to now go the extra mile to win the league title - it would be a bonus for us given that we have achieved a fair level of consistency in the league," says Gormley, who this month won the Tennent's Ulster GAA Writers Association monthly merit award.

Errigal Ciaran are still very much in the reckoning for the league crown too - and why wouldn't they be with the rich mix of youth and experience at their disposal.
