GAA: Cathal turns on the style at two levels

Stewartstown have been crowned the new Tyrone Under 13 champions.

The team beat Killeeshil in the decider at Donaghmore and in doing so underlined the depth of under-age talent within their ranks.

And perhaps this is best exemplified by Cathal Devlin.

He may still be eligible at Under 13 level but this talented youngster not only gained his medal in this sector but actually played in the Stewartstown team that played in the Tyrone Under 16 championship final as well.

He turned out at midfield in the Under 13 final and played at corner-forward in the Under 16 showdown.

In this contest, Stewartsown were beaten by Tattyreagh who marked their 75th anniversary in fine style by lifting the trophy.

Yet Cathal ensured that they had endured a big sweat before they finally collected their honour.

Tattyreagh actually came close to landing a double at Under 16 level as they were just beaten by Brackaville in the Under 16 All County League final.

The Tyrone Under 13 competition provided a suprisingly high standard of fare and underlined the benefits of an organised structure in this particular sphere.

Stewartstown's triumph comes on the back of improvements at all levels within the club which now boasts enhanced facilities at their fine complex.

And ex-Tyrone ace Fergal Logan is still playing with as much enthusiasm as ever, I believe!

The club certainly can be held up as a model of progress and efficiency, indeed.
