Hockey: Surgeoner carves fatal blow to Academy's hopes

Vanessa Surgeonor was the heroine for Ballyclare High School in last weekend's Belfast Telegraph/Bank of Ireland Schools' Cup.

She popped up with the winning goal for last year's beaten finalists against Omagh Academy with just two minutes left on the clock.

The result sets up a third round tie for Ballyclare High against Portadown College after they defeated Wellington College 4-0.

Jane Fallis and Laura Gamble fired Friends into the next round as they defeated Antrim Grammar 2-1.

Friends now meet Lurgan College in the next round following their 8-0 demolition of Glenlola.

Katie McGowan grabbed an impressive hat-trick while Jade Marshall, Kim Scott, Natalie Barr, Zoe Dennison and Sarah McCracken were the other names on Lurgan's scoresheet.

Friends' Lisburn rivals, Wallace, and Sullivan could not be separated as they fought out a 1-1 draw after extra time.

The clash between BRA and Bloomfield also went to extra time with BRA eventually running out 3-1 winners after a Jenny Kyle hat-trick.

Also through to the next round on December 8 is Carrick Grammar, following their 3-1 win over Cookstown High. Clare Mulligan, Sarah Galbraith and Carly Beggs were the Carrick scorers.

Coleraine High put seven goals past Limavady without reply and Enniskillen Collegiate clinched a 2-1 win over Hunter House.
