Netball: Noleen flies home to boost Belfast Ladies title bid

Belfast Ladies begin their Spar Premier league challenge this weekend against Larkfield 2 at the City of Lisburn Racquets club and interntional Noleen Lennon is hoping her team regains the trophy lost last season to close rivals Graduates.

Noleen has just returned home to Portaferry, from Singapore (pictured right) where she helped Northern Ireland win the bronze medal with victories against Canada and Sri Lanka. Singapore retained the title.

One of the youngest players to compete in a world championships, Noleen was in Jamaica for the 'worlds' in 2003 and two years later assisted Northern Ireland under 21's win gold in Europe and sixth in the World Youths in Fort Lauderdale.

Newly promoted Larkfield 2 had a win in their debut match in the Premier league on Friday night at the Racquets club.

Five goals separated them from Bangor to take the three vital points.

Lisburn's other team, Laganside, also gained promotion this season but were unlucky to lose by five goals to Graduates 3, the final score 40-35.

League champions Graduates had a runaway victory over Belfast Ladies 2, 67-26 and third placed Larkfield had a 52-20 win over Grads 2.

Belfast Ladies, who defeated Graduates in the Opening Rally last week, had a free week.

WEEK 2 FIXTURES

7pm: Belfast Ladies 2 vs Larkfield, Laganside vs Graduates,

8.30pm: Larkfield 2 vs Belfast Ladies, Graduates 3 vs Grads 2, Bangor has a free week.
