Magees shock Olympic gold medallists but it is end of worlds

Chloe and Sam Magee from Raphoe missed out on a place in the mixed doubles quarter finals at the World Championships in Glasgow.

The Ulster and Irish number one pair, ranked 35th in the World, shocked Olympic gold medallists Tontowi Ahmad and Lilyanna Natsir of Indonesia by taking the first set 21-19.

But the number 3 seeds won the next two 21-16 21-10 to clinch the tie.

Chloe said: "We have had a good tournament reaching the last 16 and putting the Olympics champions under real pressure.

"Our earlier victory over the number 16 seeds from Japan shows we can compete well against the top Far East players.

"But we will have be at least in the top 25 of the world rankings to achieve our aim of qualification for the Tokyo Olympics."
