Martin McHugh can clinch a record-breaking seventh NIBA singles success when he faces Balmoral starlet Mitchell Albert in the final at Carrickfergus.

It's no surprise that the Ireland international and Whitehead man will go into the showcase decider as hot favourite, taking into account his past record in the tournament, whereas it will be Albert's first appearance on the big stage.

However, he sent out a message of intent in midweek by comprehensively defeating McHugh's international team-mate Barry Brown - the 2008 singles winner - 21-12 in the semi-finals .

"The young lad has done fantastically well over the course of the competition," said McHugh.

"He not only defeated Barry, but also clocked up wins over players like Aidan Corrigan and Robert Hastings in the early rounds.

"There'll be no pressure on him, but I'm sure he'll want to finish the job so I'll need to be at my best."

NIBA Championships: Singles: M McHugh v M Albert (Balmoral).

Junior singles: D Anderson (Carrick) v S Jess (Lisnagarvey).

Triples: R McMullan (Portadown) v G McGleave (Divis).

Fours: R Hastings (Bangor) v R McMullan (Portadown).
