Marty McHugh has already re-written the NIBA record books, but he could be about to pen a new chapter at Carrickfergus over the next two days.

The Irish international has again dominated the association's national championships and is only one game away from picking up the singles title for an unprecedented eighth time.

But McHugh will also be involved in two other finals - the pairs and triples.

He was involved in a clash against Balmoral's Tom Turkington and Annesley Harrison late last night before booking his place - where he is again joined by Barry Browne - in the former (25-14).

The Whitehead boys will now go head to head with Bangor's Thomas Carson and Matthew Crawford tomorrow evening.

In an all-Whitehead singles final, McHugh will line out against Stephen McKinley in the afternoon session, but he begins his title surge tonight in the triples. Joined by Jack Moffett and JR Wilson, McHugh faces a difficult assignment against Bangor's Robert Hastings.

"It will be a hectic few days," he said.

"But I simply take one game at a time - and that will be the triples. Everyone is here on merit, everyone has played a heck of a lot of games to get here, so they'll be wanting to grasp the chance.

"It's a matter of going out and giving it your best shot - and that's what I'll be doing."
