McVicker misses out on Money's crunch game with Pegasus

Ballymoney face a must-win game on Saturday if they are to have even the slightest chance of catching Senior League champions Pegasus.

They will have to do what they failed to do last season, that is beat the title holders at the Joey Dunlop Centre to keep the pot boiling.

Already the Co Antrim girls have dropped 10 points while their opponents have an unblemished record.

To add to their concerns ex-Ireland captain Lynsey McVicker misses the big game.

Instead she's off partying at boyfriend Colin's bash in Germany but no-one would begrudge her a day off after all the years of sterling service she has put in for club and country.

Ballymoney have been further depleted with the resignation of coach Ronnie Smith who has found he cannot give the commitment that is required.

To add to their woes Bridget McKeever is still sidelined with an injury. And goalkeeper Angela Platt has yet to play this season, as she's concentrating on football as a Northern Ireland 'keeper.

But at least McKeever will be putting her international experience to good use as she'll be in the dug-out in an unofficial coaching capacity.

Randalstown aren't in action at the weekend which is a source of frustration for them.

They play Ards in the semi-finals of the Ulster Shield on Sunday week and will have a day off on Saturday week as well.

"That will be four weeks without a game and it's hardly ideal preparation," sighed midfielder Louise Creighton.

Saturday also sees Irish Senior Cup action, and Lurgan make their debut in the competition when they face Munster minnows Bandon.

Their neighbours Armagh will parade new Aussie signing Katrina Paterson against Dublin University at Santry.

Seven Ulster sides are in the mix, all facing cross-border opposition.

Irish Senior Cup third round: Lurgan v Bandon (Craigavon Leisure Centre, 12.30pm); Belfast Harlequins v Belvedere (Deramore, 1pm); UCC v Ards (Mardyke, Cork 1pm); Dublin University v Armagh (Santry, 2.30pm); Lisnagarvey v UCD (Hillsborough, 2.30pm); Omagh v Old Alexandra (Youth Sports Centre, Omagh 2.30pm); Victorians v Pembroke Wanderers (Queen's, 2.30pm).

Adelaide Insurances Senior One: v Ballymoney v Pegasus (Joey Dunlop Centre, 2.30pm).

Roadwise Senior Two: Coleraine v Parkview; Priorians v Civil Service, North Down v Ballyclare.
