Murray can go all the way to Slam glory, says Wade
Former Wimbledon champion Virginia Wade has backed Andy Murray to break his grand slam duck in 2011.
The 23-year-old will once again go into next week's Australian Open among the favourites to lift the first major title of the season.
“I think he's really ready now,” said Wade. “Two years ago I thought it was premature to say he was going to win, which was what everybody did. It put an unrealistic expectation on him.”
A rejuvenated Federer looks a particularly formidable obstacle after following up his Barclays ATP World Tour Finals win in November by lifting the title in Doha last week.
Wade, though, thinks winning the mental battle will be the key factor if Murray is to make his major breakthrough.
She continued: “Roger's playing amazingly well right now but maybe he's peaked too early? That happened to Andy two years ago, then last year he played so well but still lost to someone who had a phenomenal day.”
