Ronnie gets his Tactics just right

By Robert Fenton

Talking Tactics spoke volumes with a scintillating performance in taking the £1400 Track Bookmakers & DTSC 525 final, clocking the fastest time of the year (28.48) at Drumbo Park on Saturday night.

The draw was the key to his victory and from trap two, the black dog reversed the semi-final form with the favourite Coolykereen Risk and Badminton Rua.

He clipped out in front of Risk and Tinas Peppa who soon lost her place on the inside as Tactics hit the turn ahead of Coolykereen and Badminton while Fernisky Tango was bumped out of contention. Putting in a tremendous sectional of 16.26, there was stopping Tactics, trained in Hillsborough by Ronnie McKeown for Helen's Bay owner Charles Martin.

Running on powerfully, the dog got his tactics spot on with a brilliant piece of front-running, having three and a half lengths to spare over the staying-on Peppa with Rua getting the better of the fading Risk by a length.

Trainer Ronnnie was also on the ball with Colarhouse Mack whom he handles for Lifford's Jason Whyte. Breaking his maiden tag, the Oct' 14 dog won for the first time in nine attempts.
