Rowing: Brock broken by Queen’s royal show

Published 03/07/2010 | 09:04

Queen’s booked their place in the semi-finals of the Henley Royal Regatta for the first time in over 30 years yesterday on the Thames.

The Belfast crew, who last reached the same stage in 1976, defeated Canada’s Brock University with a gutsy performance.

Queen's were down off the start but kept their cool and rowed through the opposition to win by three quarters of a length in one of the closest finishes of the week.

They will now meet Nereus from Amsterdam in the semis after the Dutch crew beat the Queen’s B VIII by two and a half lengths earlier in the day.

Hopes will be high that Queen's can go on and reach the final having posted the fastest time of the day at 6.29, 13 seconds quicker than the Dutch VIII.
