Steady start for Froome at Tour de Romandie

By Robert Jones

Britain's Chris Froome came fifth as Orica-Scott rider Michael Albasini took a sprint finish on stage one of the Tour de Romandie from Aigle to Champery.

Swiss Albasini crossed ahead of Team UAE Emirates' Diego Ulissi and Movistar's Jesus Herrada at the top of a category one climb at the end of the 172km course.

Prologue winner Fabio Felline retained the yellow jersey.

Today's stage two runs over 161km to Bulle when Italian Felline will defend an eight-second advantage over Maximilian Schachmann and Herrada.

Albasini is ninth, 14 seconds adrift, while Froome remains 29 seconds adrift having saved energy during the time trial.
