Supermum Laura runs away with it

By Brian Hill

Kilkeel's new long distance running sensation Laura Graham admitted victory in yesterday's Belfast Marathon "did not seem real".

In only her seventh ever race over the 26.2 mile distance, mother-of-four Graham clocked a PB of 2 hours 41 minutes 46 seconds to become the first female from Northern Ireland to win her home marathon since Barbara Brewer back in 1999.

The triumph was made all the more impressive by the fact Graham ran in the London Marathon just over a week ago and finished a minute quicker yesterday.

"Winning this doesn't feel real but all the hard work is worth it," conceded 31-year-old Graham.

The men's race was won by Kenyan Bernard Rotich in 2 hours 16 minutes 2 seconds.
