Bangor aims to net a double success at Ballycastle

Ace effort: Karl Donaldson has made it through to the last four

Bangor/ATT, Ulster's newest tennis club, are on course for a double success at the Co Antrim Senior Championship at Ballycastle. Top seed Kerri Russell eased into the ladies' singles final with a straightforward 6-2, 6-2 win over Kathy Cunningham and she will now meet second-ranked Julie McManus, who beat Christine Duncan 6-4 6-2.

Today Russell's club-mate and mixed doubles partner Karl Donaldson, seeded two, will face Newcastle's Gareth McGreevy in the men's semi-final. Donaghadee pair Stephen McCausland and Aaron Stubbs, the title favourite, meet in the other tie.

Russell and Donaldson have been having a great season and helped secure the Belfast & District Mixed League title last month.

In the junior events, top seed, David Weir (David Lloyd) had a tough quarter-final match in the U18 event but won through 6-4 6-3.

The next quarter-final between Jakob Robb (Windsor) and Dylan Robinson (Bangor) saw the former win 6-2 6-1.

Paul Bannigan (Donegal) overcame Matthew Robinson (ATT) 6-2 6-2 in qualifying to earn a meeting with third seed Chris Cree.

In the girls' under 18 event, top seed Eva Lennox was beaten 7-6 6-2 by qualifier, and younger opponent, Mary Parkash in what was a surprise result.
