Sam Bothwell shows his mettle to march on to the quarter-finals of the ITF

TENNIS: Sam Bothwell produced one of the wins of his career yesterday when he defeated Great Britain’s Luke Oakley to make the quarter-finals of the ITF

Bothwell came through a tight duel with the number five seed, 6-4 3-6 6-3 and now faces another British player, Luke Simeon who knocked out the number three seed Sam Rice.

Bothwell's dad Nigel said: "Getting his first ITF point by winning his first round match has taken a lot of pressure off Sam and he really played the way he can to beat Oakley."

Windsor's Karola Bejenaru was a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 winner over Megan Rogers, while Dundalk's Ruth Copas defeated Spain's Andrea Garcia Fernandez 7-6(5) 5-7 7-5.
