Aaron Stubbs will always rate his second Co Antrim men's singles title as more memorable than his first success at Ballycastle 12 months ago.

The Donaghadee teenager scored an emphatic 6-2 6-1 win over Karl Donaldson in Saturday's final to retain the trophy.

Although he lifted the title last year, this was his first senior tournament victory since he left the junior ranks.

"It will go down as something that I will always remember because it's my first title as a senior and let's hope there are more to come," he said.

Kerri Russell also retained her title as she made short work of beating Julie McManus 6-0 6-1 in the final.

"I always love playing Ballycastle and it's my favourite tournament so it was a bonus to win the title once again," enthused the ATT player. "I played quite well and the most pleasing thing, apart from winning the match, was the fact that I didn't make too many unforced errors."

Russell made it two wins for the day when she teamed up with Kathy Cunningham to lift the ladies doubles crown after a 7-5 5-7 7-6 victory over McManus and Ashley McVeigh.

Gareth and Megan McGreevy beat Russell and Donaldson 6-2 6-3 to claim the mixed doubles trophy. David Weir and Mary Parkash lifted the U18 titles in the junior event, the former beating Ryan West in straight sets.

Parkash's opponent, Lydia Kelly, was forced to retire with a wrist injury, having earlier beaten her to win the U16 trophy while Jordan McKeown won the corresponding boy's event.

This week, Peter Bothwell will be carrying local hopes in the Irish Open at Fitzwilliam.
