Ulster sailors are on course for Rio

Published 10/07/2013

SAILING: Ulster Olympicans Ryan Seaton, from Carrickfergus, and Bangor's Matt McGovern will benefit from a major Irish sailing team sponsorship provided by Irish oil and gas exploration and production company Providence Resources.

Providence will back the team for a four year period in the run up to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. Seaton and McGovern played leading roles as the Irish team enjoyed their most successful Olympics for 30 years at London 2012 with fourth, 10th and 14th place finishes and remain on board for Rio.

Company Chief Executive, Tony O'Reilly, said: "Providence Resources were so proud of the Irish sailing team at the Games in 2012 and we know they can achieve so much more. We want to provide the team with the support to reach their goals in 2016".

Irish Sailing Association vice chairman Alan Crosbie said: "We are delighted with the commitment and confidence shown by Providence Resources in our sailors."
