The Lagan Valley Leisureplex played host to one of the biggest sporting events of the weekend in terms of competitors as the Disability Sports NI swimming championships took place there on Saturday.
Close to 160 competitors, the largest number to ever enter the competition, took part in what is Northern Ireland’s nationwide swimming championships for people with disabilities.
The championships, which is in its 11th year, is the only pan disability gala to be held in Northern Ireland.
Following a day of excellent and fierce competition, with over 60 events and a huge number of medal presentations, James Hamilton from Larne emerged as the best performance swimmer and Nicole Turner as the best 25m swimmer.
James and Nicole were presented with their trophies by Disability Sports NI President and four times world disabled waterskiing champion Janet Gray.
The event was organised by Disability Sports NI and supported by Nationwide, with volunteers helping out from Lisburn City Swimming Club, Swim Ulster Ltd and Stranmillis College.
