With a little bit of devil we can finish top: Walser

By Staff Reporter

Belfast Giants player-coach Derrick Walser is refusing to run up the white flag and concede the Elite League title to the Cardiff Devils. Back-to-back defeats to the Welsh side in last weekend's top-of-the-table double-header might have left the Giants seven points adrift, but Walser  is determined to keep the pressure on.

"We've had a great year up until now. Our record speaks for itself," said Walser, ahead of tonight's home game against the Fife Flyers, which is followed by a trip to Nottingham tomorrow night. "We had a little bump in the road. It's not over yet, but right now we've got to fix a couple of issues and get back to winning ways.

"It starts with one win, all we can control is the first game, how we come out, how we play and try to get the 'W' on the first night.

"We got into a groove. We were pulling off wins when we probably shouldn't have, we kept finding ways to get points on the board."

He added: "I want a grittier performance (tonight)."
