Panthers closing in on Giants

Nottingham Panthers closed the gap on Rapid Solictors Elite League leaders Belfast Giants to a single point with a 2-1 win at Cardiff Devils.

Jake Morissette put the Devils ahead just 30 seconds into the contest on the powerplay but Robert Farmer and Robert Lachowicz found the net before the end of the first period to turn things around and took the points as neither team could find the net in the final two periods.

Ben Arnt scored twice as Coventry Blaze comfortably beat the Belfast Giants 5-1, while braces from Cory Tanaka and Jordan Mayer helped Hull Stingrays see off fellow pacesetters Braehead Clan 6-2.

Sheffield Steelers failed to cash in on the defeats to Belfast and Braehead as a 4-2 loss at Dundee Stars saw them slip to fourth.

In Sunday night's other game, Chris Auger scored a hat-trick to pace Fife Flyers to a 5-2 victory over Edinburgh Capitals.
