Happy family: Claire Taggart and her bearded dragons Luna and Bella

Larne lady Claire Taggart is relishing the prospect of competing for Team GB in the Paralympics in Rio and would love to bring home a medal for her rather unusual collection of pets.

The 21-year-old boccia star has two bearded dragons called Luna and Bella as well as SIX tortoises, one of which is named after Gary Lightbody, the lead singer of her favourite band Snow Patrol.

Claire and several other Northern Ireland competitors in Rio are set to attend tonight’s opening ceremony in the Maracana Stadium, before the Games start tomorrow.

“The goal is to come home with a medal and we feel we are capable of it,” said Claire, who will be in action in the Team boccia event on Saturday.
