Anthem calls the tune on UK raid

County Derry trainer Noel Kelly made a successful raid on Uttoxeter as Mia's Anthem struck in division one of the Derek Fower Transport Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old was held up towards the rear by 5lb claimer Derek Fox for most of the three-mile heat and came through to chellenge the leaders Perfect Timing and Lucky To Be Alive in the straight.

After the latter fell at the second-last, Mia's Anthem (8-1) bounded clear to win by five lengths from Perfect Timing. The Wicked Kipper was 28 lengths away in third.

"I thought Derek gave him a very good ride. He pulled very hard the last day in Killarney so we thought we'd take a chance with him, drop him out, step up to three miles and stick in a set of ear plugs," said Kelly.

"It seems to have done the job and we told Derek to make his challenge as late as possible.

"I didn't want to step him up to three miles too early as he's only a young horse.

"I'll probably bring this fella back over here in two to three weeks."
