Miss set to be a hit at Newcastle racing
Friday, 27 June 2008
Missoula who came from the clouds to take the Ascot Stakes last week, can give Suzy Smith another dream success in the John Smith's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.
The five-year-old was a fairytale first winner on the Flat for Lewes-based Smith, whose string is made up mainly of National Hunt horses.
It was almost a heart-stopping moment as Missoula burst through the pack to get home by a head in a blanket finish.
That race was over two and a half miles on quick going but a fast-run race over two miles on slower ground should suit her even better.
She was a 13-length winner over two miles and two furlongs at York last October when trained by Mark Tompkins. A low draw is desirable to avoid being taken wide at the first turn and there are no complaints on that score.
